What is a Yurt (GER)?

The Mongolians named this structure “ger” which translates to “home” in English. A yurt is the modern version of an ancient shelter used by nomadic tribes in Mongolia. They used yurts as permanent homes for ages. In fact, rural Mongolians still live in yurts to this date. It’s a dome-shaped structure that resembles a tent but has a cabin’s durability. Yurts have circular wooden frames covered in felted wool layers, and along with other amenities, they can hold a stove to provide heat. Most yurts leave a small carbon footprint because they consist of natural materials, so they’re an eco-friendly shelter option. Basic portable yurts can be assembled and taken down in one to three hours, while luxury yurts usually remain stationary. Yurts were traditionally used as portable homes for nomadic communities, and some populations still dwell in them full time.

Activity

Yurt vacations connect you to nature, open the door to new cultural experiences, and overall give you a place to relax and make incredible memories with loved ones.

  • We have a rural septic system. All toilet paper must be discarded in the covered bin provided. Absolutely NO urinating on the property anywhere other than the toilet.
  • The Yurt can run very hot in the summer months, especially June, July and August. It is advised for guests to plan day excursions during the heat of the day.
  • In colder months (October-April), most guests will heat the yurt with the wood burning stove. We provide wood and kindling throughout your stay, however you'll be required to feed the fire hourly throughout the night to keep warm and cozy. We also provide space heaters to keep the chill off, if you prefer not to wake up and stoke the fire throughout the night, however it will be cold with just a space heater, especially on nights with below-freezing temperatures. Again, this is rustic and part of the experience. Most of our guests are happy to feed the fire. If you are highly sensitive to or uncomfortable with the cold, please consider booking the Yurt at a warmer time of year (May-September).
  • Rural living is rustic! There is wind! And dust! And sometimes small critters!
  • There is no electricity in the Yurt but a torch and candles are provided. We pride ourselves in taking great care of our guests and this truly magical space, but if you're looking for a five star resort type of experience, this might not be the best place for you. Most of our guests leave with a very memorable experience, and many return! If there is anything we can do to make your stay extra special, please let us know.

Incredible views of the stars, beautiful mountains all around, complete silence, & our kids loved the ride on toys.

Moi

The yurt experience was good. The fabulous starry night. Kitchen and toilet equipment were clean but outdated. For a camping project was perfect. The place is being rebuilt in part but promises to be very good.

Amanda

Donna E.

Kendra

Great space! Peaceful and homey. An experience worth having!

Sjoerd

Booked this one last minute on our way from LA to Vegas, and it was a very cute and remote gettaway. Very cold (because it was winter, but there was a heater in the yurt, so you wouldn't notice it at all) Unique experience overall!
